How do you define contentment?
Is it when we think everything is going our way? No, that is just our deluded thinking at the moment. For in the next moment we thing everything sucks and nothing is going our way.
For me contentment is accepting things as they are. By “things” I mean the landscape of our lives. It is possible to be content, knowing that everything is always in flux, changing depending on the interdependent relationships between all that appears in this landscape of our lives. Of course we will judge things as good or bad, right or wrong and make choices. It is how we express our individuality. It is also our deluded thinking. Yet we are also part of a interconnecting web of existence that has no such distinctions as right or wrong, it is empty. By practicing “Just Sitting” we can let go of our deluded thoughts, resentments, negative emotions and get a fresh perspective on what our lives are about. The outcome is contentment, without trying or without desire to get something. It is just the outcome, no gain. Nothing but the scenery of our lives.
